Living With Teenagers

For parents and carers of teenagers aged 11 to 16 years old.

The groups support parents and carers who find themselves in difficulties with the behavioural and communication challenges that the teenage years can present. The group follows a step-by-step process, helping parents and carers to identify what their teenager's difficult behaviour is, why it is happening, and how they might go about changing it.

WORK - group pics June 2014 077Parents who have attended a Living With Teenagers group report that they feel less anxious because they have discovered that they are not the only ones dealing with these problems.

The group aims to recognise that parents / carers are the real experts on their own teenager, whilst giving them the opportunity to share their experiences with other parents / carers.

We will support them in developing their skills in coping with and managing their teenager's behaviour. Groups run for 2 hours per week for 7 weeks.  Any parent, grandparent or carer of a teenager aged 11 to 17 years old can book a place on the programme.  See below for details of the next groups & click on the links for information on how to book a place.

Working with other parents within the group was so valuable, in that we were able to share experiences, in safe and secure environment, something I couldn't do with my friends nor my children's friends' parents, who could at times be judgmental and competitive! (Parent Attendee)

Positive Minds Group Information

Our Living with Teenagers Positive Minds groups are specifically targeted towards parents and carers whose teenagers are experiencing mental ill-health and / or social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. The core of the programme is based on our established Living with Teenagers group work programme but group members will also have the opportunity to explore the affects of poor mental health on the parenting task and the strategies and ideas that potentially diminish negative influences.

Running a specialist group means there is more likely to be a common or shared experience among the members that allows for a more open discussion on mental health (and related matters) as well as a better understanding of the impact of the symptoms on the family and parenting approach in the home.

All members will be visited prior to the group so they can ask questions and gather further information. The home visits also allow the workers to discover any barriers to be overcome in order to enable the parent or carer make the commitment to attend the sessions.

Groups run for 2 hours per week for 10 weeks.
