If you are a UK taxpayer, Payroll Giving (also known as Workplace Giving or Give as you Earn) is a scheme that allows you to give a monthly donation directly from your gross salary.
How Payroll Giving works
Your donation is taken from your pre-tax salary, meaning that part of your donation comes from money that would have otherwise gone to HMRC (i.e. your taxable income is reduced and you get all of the tax relief).
For example, making a £20 donation to charity as a 20% taxpayer:
Total donated to charity £20
You pay £16
Reduction in tax £4
To give to a charity in this way inform your payroll department confirming the amount you want to donate and our charity number (1128547).
If your employer does not currently offer a Payroll Giving scheme please let us know and we can get the Charities Aid Foundation – our preferred Payroll Giving Association (PGA) – to contact them about setting one up.
